What does butterbeer taste like, how is butterbeer recipe made at Harry Potter Land?

Inside the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, drinking some butterbeer is one of the most popular things everyone wants to try. So just what does butterbeer taste like? How is butterbeer made? What is the recipe for buttterbeer? Let's find out!

First some history on butterbeer in the Harry Potter books and movies. It was a popular drink that Harry Potter and his friends had whenever they went to Hogsmeade village. It was never really said if butterbeer was suppose to be alcoholic or not, but I always thought it was.

At the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios, there are two places you can buy butterbeer. One is an outdoor cart right in the middle of Hogsmeade village. The other is inside Hogs Head Pub, which is attached to The Three Broomsticks restaurant.

Way back as Universal Studios was making The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, they knew butterbeer drink would be a big hit with Harry Potter fans. Who wouldn't want to be drinking the most popular drink of Harry Potter and found nowhere else!

That was the problem however. It did not exist, so they had to make it. Not only that but it had to be approved by J. K. Rowling herself. A team of chef's headed by Steven Jayson started mixing and testing ingredients for butterbeer recipe. Since it would be drank by kids it would not be alcoholic and had to be sweet.

Finally they took everything over to the UK, made what they thought it should taste like, and gave some to J. K. Rowling to try. She took a sip, broke out in a big smile and said "yes chef, this is it". So that is how butterbeer was made.

The butterbeer recipe is a closely guarded secret. They are not saying how it is made or what the ingredients are. It is dairy free, for those who can't take any dairy products. You can try to make butterbeer yourself but it's not going to taste like what they have.

So just what DOES butterbeer taste like at The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter? Most people describe the taste as a combination of cream soda and butterscotch, while others say it's like shortbread and butterscotch. All agree it's very sweet with a very thick head of foam on it.

How much does butterbeer cost? For a plastic cup it's around $4.00. For a hard plastic souvenir stein of butterbeer it's around $10.00. It actually comes in two versions; frozen and non frozen. The frozen butterbeer was preferred by some, while others liked the regular version.

The butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is non alcoholic so all can enjoy it. The line for it at the outside cart goes faster than inside the Hogs Head Pub.
